If You’re Going To Use Ringers, At Least Be More Discreet

Franklin High School in Stockton, California was severely reprimanded by the California Interscholastic Federation Sac-Joaquin Section’s board of managers for using three players from American Somoa. The school’s football coaches flew the families to Stockton and put them in hotels long enough for the mothers to register the boys for school. Wow.

Nicole Atkins — Neptune City (2007)

Nicole Atkins isn’t your typical singer. But when you find out that she’s from New Jersey, it makes so much more sense. She’s actually from Neptune City, New Jersey, hence the album title. Anyone who has ever listened to Bruce Springsteen can almost immediately recognize the similar Americana themes.

Hot Springs — Volcano (2007)

A band starting to gain notice is Hot Springs, consisting of front-woman Giselle Webber (guitar), Rémy Nadeau-Aubin (guitar), Frédéric Sauvé (bass), and Anne Gauthier (drums). Right off the bat, you can tell the band wouldn’t let up with its music.

Red Sox Will Probably Sweep Rockies For World Series Glory

If the baseball gods had anything to do with the outcome of this year’s WS, the rest of the games will play out like Game Two with pitching duels. But more likely, Games Three and Four will probably look more like game one with dominate Boston pitching, like Josh Beckett being completely godlike in dismantling the Rockies fundamental offense.

Tiger Woods Is God

Tiger Woods left his competitors on the golf course gasping for air this year with seven victories in only 16 tournaments, including four wins in his last five events. His scoring average of 67.8 was 1.5 strokes better than the second-place finisher, Ernie Els. For perspective on how big a gap that is on the PGA Tour, 1.5 strokes was also the difference between No. 2 Els and the 88th-ranked player in scoring average. — Tiger Woods as 2007’s $$$ Athlete.

The Forms — The Forms (2007)

It’s been four years since The Forms’ highly-acclaimed debut album Icarus was released. It’s been well worth the wait, but for the quartet, making the album was a grueling piece of work that rivaled some movie production schedules with the band spending 50 straight days in the studio. Frontman Alex Tween says it was worth it because “we’re really proud of how it came out.”

Apple Mac OS 10.5 Leopard Out Tomorrow

Apple will finally release its long-awaited successor to its two-year-old operating system code-named Tiger. Lots of fans are probably already waiting in line to be among the first to purchase the DVD. Rumor has it that Apple will be handing out special Leopard t-shirts to the first few hundred guests tomorrow morning.
