LadyLuck is Taylor’s third solo album, adding to her already impressive catalog that includes the critically-acclaimed 11:11 (2005) and Lynn Teeter Flower (2007), and also marks a new chapter in the young indie folk singer-songwriter’s life as it was inspired by a concluding relationship and written during an intended move to Los Angeles.
The most intriguing facet of The Hazards Of Love is that it still has The Decemberists’ sound even with the extended doses of metal and prog rock. That might turn off some, which shouldn’t because it still sounds great.
But in autumn 2008 the wheels were put in motion for a complete solo effort and the result is Doherty’s solo debut Grace/Wastelands. Recorded at London’s Olympic Studios with producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, Cranberries, Kaiser Chiefs), Doherty revives his musical aura with the help of Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, Scottish singer Dot Allison, poet Peter “Wolfman” Wolfe, and his Babyshambles bandmates.
