I just read the box score of the Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Indians Tuesday night game. The Angels won 5-4 thanks to a resurgent Vladimir Guerrero. There’s no doubt that the Angels are first in the AL West.
Former Minnesota Twins stud pitcher Francisco Liriano lost Monday night and fell to a Barry Zito-esque 5-12 record and a 5.80 ERA. Liriano doesn’t seem to have fully regained his former 2006 form after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in 2008.
“[Minnesota] Twins catcher Joe Mauer, 24, who goes from a salary of $3.75 million this season to $6.25 million next season, will be paid $10.5 million and $12.5 million in the ensuing two seasons.” – . If Mauer doesn’t start at least 120 games as catcher next year, those 2009 and 2010 salaries look hard to swallow.
“You don’t have Hunter and Santana, wow. They’ll go from piranhas to little sardines.” – Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen on the prospect of the Minnesota Twins losing both Tori Hunter and Johan Santana to free agency and a possible trade after this season.
