Dorks And Losers

There has been much spec­u­la­tion about who was going to play the young James T. Kirk in J.J. Abram’s new Star Trek film. Matt Damon would have been cool.

After Heroes’s Zachary Quinto was cast as Spock, it was only a mat­ter of time before a new Kirk would be announced. And now you have it. Chris Pine will play the leg­endary cap­tain. Look­ing at Pine’s resume, I can hon­estly the only thing I have seen him in was prob­a­bly that ER episode and hell’d if I remem­ber who he was.

Of Hot Fuzz fame, Simon Pegg is Scotty!!!
Of LOTR fame, Karl Urban is McCoy.
Of Harold And Kumar fame, John Cho is Sulu.
Of Alpha Dog fame, Anton Yelchin is Chekov.
Of Pirates fame, Zoe Sal­dana is Uhura.

I’m pretty sure the high­light of the entire film would have to be Pegg play­ing Scotty. You can instantly see a resemblance.

It’s also inter­est­ing to see Eric Bana in a film like this. His name gives the project instant cred­i­bil­ity, but it’s always weird have an uber celebrity in a sci-fi movie.
